אטעם ברכת אתה חונן ובו סעיף אחד:
מפני שמותר האדם מן הבהמה היא הבינה והשכל קבעו ברכת אתה חונן ראש לאמצעיות שאם אין בינה אין תפלה:
1טַעַם בִּרְכַּת אַתָּה חוֹנֵן וּבוֹ סְעִיף אֶחָד:
מִפְּנֵי שֶׁמּוֹתַר הָאָדָם מִן הַבְּהֵמָה הִיא הַבִּינָה וְהַשֵּׂכֶל קָבְעוּ בִּרְכַּת "אַתָּה חוֹנֵן" רֹאשׁ לָאֶמְצָעִיּוֹת, שֶׁאִם אֵין בִּינָה — אֵין תְּפִלָּה:
