אשהזהיר הדיין שלא לכבד אחד מבעלי הריב בענין הדין ואפילו היה גדול ונכבד ונשוא פנים לא יסביר לו פנים בדין כשיבא לפניו עם בעל דינו ולא ישאל בעניניו וסיפורו. ואמר יתעלה לא תהדר פני גדול. ובספרי שלא תאמר עשיר הוא זה ובן גדולים הוא איך אביישנו לכך נאמר לא תהדר פני גדול. וכבר התבארו משפטי מצוה זו במקומות מסנהדרין ושבועות. (קדושים תהיו, סנהדרין פכ"ג):
