אהזהיר הדיין שלא לקבל עדות בעל עבירה ומעשות דבר על פי עדותו. והוא אמרו אל תשת ידך עם רשע להיות עד חמס. ובא הפירוש אל תשת חמס עד להוציא החמסנים והגזלנים שהם פסולים לעדות שנאמר לא יקום עד חמס באיש. והתבארו משפטי מצוה זו בפ"ג מסנהדרין. (משפטים, שם פ"י):
