דכיון שיום הכיפורים בעצמו אי אפשר לכבדו במאכל ובמשתה כדרך שמכבדין שאר יו"ט צריך לכבדו ביום שלפניו.

כתב במ"מ וציונים וז"ל: דכיון שיום – ב"י, אך הוא נתן טעם זה על רש"י ר"ה ט' ע"א ד"ה כל האוכל שצריך להרבות, ורבנו לא הביא כלל דברי רש"י, עכ"ל. אבל הרי הטעם שייך גם לולי דברי רש"י.
