Chapter 76

אלַמְנַצֵּ֥חַ בִּנְגִינֹ֑ת מִזְמ֖וֹר לְאָסָ֣ף שִֽׁיר׃

1For the leader; with instrumental music.A psalm of Asaph, a song.

בנוֹדָ֣ע בִּֽיהוּדָ֣ה אֱלֹהִ֑ים בְּ֝יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל גָּד֥וֹל שְׁמֽוֹ׃

2God is known in Judah,
God’s name is great in Israel;

גוַיְהִ֣י בְשָׁלֵ֣ם סֻכּ֑וֹ וּמְע֖וֹנָת֣וֹ בְצִיּֽוֹן׃

3Salem became an abode;
Zion, the divine den.

דשָׁ֭מָּה שִׁבַּ֣ר רִשְׁפֵי־קָ֑שֶׁת מָגֵ֬ן וְחֶ֖רֶב וּמִלְחָמָ֣ה סֶֽלָה׃

4There [God] broke the fiery arrows of the bow,
the shield and the sword of war. Selah.

הנָ֭אוֹר אַתָּ֥ה אַדִּ֗יר מֵֽהַרְרֵי־טָֽרֶף׃

5You were resplendent,
glorious, on the mountains of prey.

ואֶשְׁתּוֹלְל֨וּ ׀ אַבִּ֣ירֵי לֵ֭ב נָמ֣וּ שְׁנָתָ֑ם וְלֹא־מָצְא֖וּ כָל־אַנְשֵׁי־חַ֣יִל יְדֵיהֶֽם׃

6The stout-hearted were despoiled;
they were in a stupor;
the bravest of soldiers could not lift a hand.

זמִ֭גַּעֲרָ֣תְךָ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יַעֲקֹ֑ב נִ֝רְדָּ֗ם וְרֶ֣כֶב וָסֽוּס׃

7At Your blast, O God of Jacob,
horse and chariot lay stunned.

חאַתָּ֤ה ׀ נ֥וֹרָא אַ֗תָּה וּמִֽי־יַעֲמֹ֥ד לְפָנֶ֗יךָ מֵאָ֥ז אַפֶּֽךָ׃

8O You! You are awesome!
Who can withstand You
when You are enraged?

טמִ֭שָּׁמַיִם הִשְׁמַ֣עְתָּ דִּ֑ין אֶ֖רֶץ יָֽרְאָ֣ה וְשָׁקָֽטָה׃

9In heaven You pronounced sentence;
the earth was numbed with fright

יבְּקוּם־לַמִּשְׁפָּ֥ט אֱלֹהִ֑ים לְהוֹשִׁ֖יעַ כָּל־עַנְוֵי־אֶ֣רֶץ סֶֽלָה׃

10as God rose to execute judgment,
to deliver all the lowly of the earth. Selah.

יאכִּֽי־חֲמַ֣ת אָדָ֣ם תּוֹדֶ֑ךָּ שְׁאֵרִ֖ית חֵמֹ֣ת תַּחְגֹּֽר׃

11¹ Even the fiercest among humans shall acknowledge You,
when You gird on the last bit of fury.

יבנִֽדֲר֣וּ וְשַׁלְּמוּ֮ לַיהוָ֪ה אֱ‍ֽלֹהֵ֫יכֶ֥ם כָּל־סְבִיבָ֑יו יוֹבִ֥ילוּ שַׁ֝֗י לַמּוֹרָֽא׃

12Make vows and pay them to the ETERNAL your God;
those all around shall bring tribute to the Awesome One—²

יגיִ֭בְצֹר ר֣וּחַ נְגִידִ֑ים נ֝וֹרָ֗א לְמַלְכֵי־אָֽרֶץ׃

13who curbs the spirit of princes,
inspires awe in the kings of the earth.
